Ng Ying Kuen - 5 Animal Style

20'' Pos x 30" poster

by Grandmaster Ark Yuey Wong

Grandmaster Ark Wong was truly a man ahead of his time. In the 60's and 70's he pioneered film instruction which preceded todayユs distance learning on video and DVD. He also developed other training tools and reference materials to assist in the learning process of this extensive system of kung fu. One such reference tool was the use of printed posters.

Printed posters in large format are ideal for use at the traning hall as well as at home. Students can reference these posters while practicing their art. This poster shows the essence and representative posture for the 5 animals of Shaolin kung fu. The characters on the right side are from the couplets of the style, describing principle tenents of the Ng Ga Kuen system. The inclusion of the style couplets makes this a altar quality poster. The smaller characters on the bottom right were GM Wongユs identification. The characters written horizontally on the left of each picture describe the essence and spirit of each animal the Ng Ying Kuen or 5 animal fist of Shaolin . Each is roughly translated into english below the Chinese characters. This poster is a piece of kung fu history and belongs in the training area of practitioners of any style.

If you are a lover of Kung Fu, you have measure of thanks to give to this pioneer that first opened the door for all of us non-chinese to learn these wonderful arts. Grandmaster Ark Y. Wong was the first to break the race barrier by teaching Kung Fu non-chinese students (1958). Famous for his Ng Ga Kuen 5 family style and his 5 animal forms, he was also an accomplished herbalist and acupuncturist. GM Wong authored 2 books, ''The Grand View of Kung Fu'' in 1965 and ''The Secret of Kung Fu'' in 1969. His legacy lives on today in the hundreds of students who continue to practice Ng Ga Kuen or a derivative of this style. He wrote both books, and began teaching non-chinese after coming out of retirement. He began teaching in the United States in 1921.
